A Toronto Island airport with jets would be an environmental catastrophe for Toronto’s waterfront. Instead, it is being touted as a boon for the economy. We need EVERYONE who understands the disastrous environmental effects this would have including air, water, and noise pollution, and the impacts it would have on housing planned for the waterfront, to take a few minutes now to fill in the federal consultation survey to express their concerns (see the button below). The ‘consultation’ does not include any relevant background information or an actual proposal, and is very biased toward alleged economic benefits. In fact, it will benefit the financial interests behind the airport, including JP Morgan, a US investment bank. And there are easy travel alternatives: the publicly funded UP Express train goes regularly from Union Station to Pearson airport, or there's VIA train travel. Passenger traffic is already down at Billy Bishop - it could be closed and more parkland created as happened in Chicago.
Write your MP - it's really important: The province has unilaterally taken over the City’s role in the tripartite agreement governing the airport - however the federal government could say ‘no’ at any time. Please let your MP know you object. In addition to filling in the survey you can send a letter to you MP at these links: https://environmentaldefence.ca/nojetsto/ and also https://torealitycheck.ca/
We can win this one with collective action now. Respond to the consultation until July 24. |
