Dear Provincial MPP (MLA) Minister of Energy and Resources, Premier, Minister of the Environment; Provincial or local utility;

On our civic holiday (use name, or if you don’t have one just skip) I write to you, to ask you work with me toward real climate leadership in Canada.

The science is in. The facts are plain. All over the world we must make the transformation to renewable energy as quickly as possible. We have to change from a reliance on fossil fuels as the foundation of our economy to renewable energy.

This will be a huge challenge, but we know we can do it with your leadership and support. The future well-being of our children and grandchildren and of all living beings on the planet depends on it.

I know that you care about this too because of the actions your government has taken already to address climate change: (BC has implemented a Carbon Tax and imposed severe conditions on Gateway; Ontario has shut down coal and implemented the interactive grid, promoting renewable energy; Find out what your province has done.)

I would like to know more about how your government is addressing climate change issues. I would like to know your long-term plan both for reducing our emissions here in (your province) and for preparing for the continuing consequences of severe weather events we are seeing across the country. I would like to know how you are planning to diversify our economy towards economic activity that relies on and supports the development of renewable energy infrastructure.

Will you commit to working toward these changes?
· End fossil fuel subsidies
· Put a price on carbon
· Support the development of a renewable energy plan for Canada
If you will, we would be pleased to have you sign our pledge at http://www.climatefast.ca.

Will you talk with your leader about putting these three points on the party agenda?

I believe these are the structural changes that will help Canadians move toward a twenty-first century, low-carbon economy.

Let’s leave our children a strong economy with good, sustainable jobs so they can feed and support their families. Let’s build a future Canada we can be proud of.

I would be pleased to meet with you and discuss these ideas in more depth in person.

Yours truly,
