FIGHT TRUMP, NOT TORONTO

STOP FUELLING WILDFIRES WITH NEW PIPELINES

While Canada faces record-breaking wildfires and heat waves, and current global events have exposed fossil fuel market volatility, Prime Minister Mark Carney has started the process to fast-track a new climate-polluting, ecosystem-destroying, economically reckless pipeline as a “project of national interest” that will add to Canada’s climate crisis.

To add insult to injury, Carney plans to use your taxpayer dollars to build this pipeline that would:

• Dramatically increase tanker traffic, bringing more risk of a catastrophic oil spill in the habitat of southern resident killer whales, threatening this endangered species with extinction.
• Lock Canada into deeper dependence on a declining, high-polluting industry – even as wildfires and extreme heat bring the climate crisis to our doorstep.
• Add to the downstream pollution of burning fossil fuels, despite Carney’s claims that this new pipeline will transport “low-emission bitumen oil” through carbon capture and storage. There is no such thing as low-emission oil.

People throughout Canada are facing more frequent and intense climate disasters while politicians are fuelling the climate crisis. But there’s still time to convince politicians to choose a fossil-fuel free future instead of a polluting one.

Act now. Message your MP and tell them to invest your taxpayer dollars in clean energy solutions instead of a new bitumen pipeline.

Real nation-building projects should advance climate objectives, protect nature, uphold Indigenous rights and create long-term prosperity.

Help Canada choose the better path.

KEEP TRUMP'S DEREGULATORY AGENDA OUT OF CANADA

Canada is dismantling environmental protections at a dizzying pace. On top of a series of climate policy rollbacks, the federal government is proposing to open loopholes in environmental laws to “simplify” decisions about major projects like pipelines.

That means fewer safeguards for endangered species, Indigenous rights and public health.

Here’s what’s at stake:

• Endangered species could be wiped out if projects are “exempted” from requirements in the Species at Risk Act;
• Environmental and human health will be at greater risk as major projects are approved without thorough assessment of their environmental and social impacts as required by the Impact Assessment Act, leaving communities vulnerable;
• Critical fish habitat could be open to exploitation with changes to the Fisheries Act.

And that’s not all.

• Harmful pesticides could more easily fall through regulatory cracks into our food under proposed amendments weakening Canada’s pesticide law;
• Wild salmon already facing stressors from habitat loss and warming waters could face hotbeds of pathogens from fish farms if Canada doesn’t follow through on its promise to end open-net pens by 2029;
• Alberta’s proposed bitumen pipeline to the B.C. coast would jeopardize the oil tanker ban and leave coastal communities and ecosystems at risk of catastrophic oil spills.

Chipping away at the laws that keep us and the planet healthy is not in the public interest. It’s pandering to industries that wreak havoc on ecosystems and the climate, and it’s right out of the Trump playbook.

Send a letter to Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs and One Canadian Economy Dominic LeBlanc, and your member of Parliament, and tell them to back off environmental rollbacks!

CANADA CLIMATE WEEK XCHANGE - NOV 23-29, 2026

Excerpted from "Canada's Changing Climate Report" (second edition) Environment and Climate Change Canada, 2026. 

This report was primarily authored by experts from the Canadian climate science community.  One of the authors says where emissions go from here will affect how temperatures evolve through the 21st century and whether we can stabilize temperature or whether it just keeps increasing. Further, the report finds that if global governments keep pursuing their current climate policies, Canada will see intensified warming, which "corresponds to a future climate for Canada that is far from benign."

What does that mean? The report suggests Canadians will have to prepare for a future that's 5 degrees C hotter by 2100. In Nunavut, warming in winter could exceed 10 degrees C. Glaciers in western Canada are projected to lose more than 75 per cent of their ice, and there's a more than 60 per cent likelihood that the central Arctic Ocean will be ice-free most Septembers. Summer droughts are projected to become longer, more intense and more frequent in central and southern Canada, at the same time bracing for an increase in the frequency and intensity of flash flooding.
